Method virtualization
Change the execution representation of selected logic.
Beyond rearranging Java instructions#
Selected method bodies can be represented as a protected program executed by a dedicated runtime. The original method’s logic is no longer presented as a straightforward sequence of ordinary Java operations. This adds a different reconstruction problem to the surrounding protection layers.
Use it where the trade-off is justified#
Virtualization is opt-in and supports selecting methods rather than applying one policy to every method. Unsupported bodies are rejected by default; retaining them requires an explicit policy. Selection is therefore a reviewable decision, not a silent downgrade.
Sensitive decision logic can justify stronger execution protection. Very frequent operations, initialization behaviour and exceptional paths require representative testing. Runtime overhead depends on the selected methods and workload.
Behavioural validation#
The project includes interpreter, value handling and runtime-boundary tests. Application-level validation complements these checks: compare return values, side effects, exceptions and performance against the original build.
